Hold point checklists

This article will explain, how to set up and use hold point checklists in Dalux. Hold point checklists are typically used for different kinds of permits on the construction site that must be signed off by other disciplines or construction managers.

Hold points are mandatory verification steps that must be approved for the process to be continued.

How to set up hold point checklists

Before setting up hold point checklists, make sure to activate this feature. To do so, go to

Settings Field Add features 'Hold point checklists' Activate:

When activated, the feature will show up in the Checklists tile of the Field settings:

How to create hold point checklist templates

To use hold point checklists, you have to create one or more templates for your checklists. To create templates, go to

Settings Field 'Hold point checklists templates' Add.

From here you can either:

  • Create new: Creates a new template from scratch
  • Copy from other project: Allows you to copy a template from another project in which you are a project administrator
  • Copy from company: Imports a template from your company profile

Editing the hold point checklist template is similar to any other Dalux checklist. Just drag the desired data fields into the checklist. Hold point checklists enable two additional data fields:

  • Hold point: Responsible users must fill out information in the selected fields.
  • Holt point approval: Responsible users fill out additional information and approve or return the checklist to the hold points.

For these hold point types, the purple-colored sections mark which hold point a data field belongs to. Fields are always connected to one hold point and cannot be linked to multiple hold points or none at all.

 Technical information

A template must be activated so you can add it to a workflow. Only then can it be used to create new checklists. Activated hold point checklist templates can not be edited or deleted.

To change hold points in an existing hold point checklist template, make sure that all checklists that have been created with it are deleted. Then, the workflow it is connected to must be deactivated. Afterwards, you are able to edit the template. Changes only affect checklists that are created from then on. Deleted hold point checklists can't be recovered, so make sure to export them before.

How to turn on audit information for hold point checklists

In the hold point checklist templates window, go to: More  Report settings.

In this window, you can turn on or off the audit information. If audit information is activated, the hold point checklists will include information about who approved/changed/rejected hold points or other data fields, and when they did so.

An example of the result can be seen here:

How to set up the workflow

Once a hold point checklist has been created, it must be added to a work package for it to be used. To do that go to:

Settings Field Work packages.

Go to one of your work packages, click the -icon at the right of the name, and click Add workflow. Then choose the Hold point checklist option and select your hold point checklist:

 Technical information

Only templates that have been activated can be added to a workflow.

After adding the workflow, add responsible user groups to the individual hold points to complete the setup:

How to use hold point checklists

Only users in the first hold point of the workflow, or task and checklist coordinators, can create new hold point checklists. Users in later hold points can receive and edit their sections, but only after the previous roles have completed theirs.

Only users in charge of the final hold point on the checklist can close it.

Create a new hold point checklist

You can create a hold point checklist the same way as you create regular checklists.

When creating a new hold point checklist, only the first hold point is available for you to fill out. This is indicated by the  icon. Hold points that are not available to you are greyed out.

Receiving a hold point checklist

When a hold point checklist has been forwarded to a step you are responsible for, you find it in:

Tasks Inbox.

You will be notified about it like other registrations. Opening it will show all information of all previous hold points. Click on Edit to complete your section:

When editing the hold point checklist, the section you are responsible for is highlighted accordingly:

If you need to approve previous hold points, review the details, then either approve and submit the checklist or send it back to the relevant step. If you send it back, a message box will appear for you to explain why.

 Return technicalities

Only the 'Hold point approval' fields have the option to return to previous steps. The checklist can be returned to any previous hold point that requires approval from that authorizer.

You cannot return the checklist to hold points that have been approved by another responsible.

 Tips and tricks

You can also see the hold point flow for a checklist by opening the checklist from Settings. Open the specific checklist from the list and click Show hold point flow:

When in use, all the data from the hold point checklist will be accessible from the list view to give you the option of filtering, sorting, and analyzing like any other Dalux feature:
